GAURISAGAR, Jan 3 : With a view to popularize Dessangmukh, the riverine tourist spot of Sivsasagar district, the Dessang-Brahmaputra Eco Tourism Development Society will organize a three-day long Dessang-Brahmaputra Festival in association with the people of greater Dessangmukh, Sivasagar district administration and Mishing Autonomous Council (MAC), from January 6 to January 8 at the premises of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and Ganasilipi Bikram Singh Yein Samannoy Kshetra.
The first day’s programme will include plantation sapling, flag hoisting and smriti tarpan. Subudh Sonowal, Superintendent of Police, Sivasagar, will inaugurate the three day-long mega Dessang-Brahmaputra festival. On this occasion a souvenir will be published and noted columnist Samsul Barik will unveil it. The second day’s programme will include drawing and spot-essay competition to be held under the aegis of Dessangmukh Chitra Kala Kendra. Sports events will also be held.
On the concluding day, the Kali Nath Doley and Kachan Doley Memorial half-marathon will be held. Debasis Sarmah, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sivasagar, will flag off the marathon. A colourful cultural procession will be taken out and Prasanta Kumar Bori, Executive Member, MAC, Cultural and Tourism department, will flag it off. Later, an open session will be held. Narayan Konwer, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, will inaugurate it while Paramanonda Chayengiya, Chief Executive Member, MAC will grace the meeting as a chief guest.
Besides, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLAs of Sivasagar, Nazira, Thowra and Amguri, Dr.Ronuj Pegu, MLA, Dhemaji, Sarat Hazarika, AASU education secretary, Podmaluchan Doley, TMPK general secretary, Ashwini Chetia, AATASU chief adviser, Suchanta Borgohian, former MLA and social worker Bhaben Mohan will attend the function as invited guests. The programme end with noted vocal artist Muni Panging memorial cultural night. Ashwini Kumar Doley, ADC, Sivasagar will inaugurate it.
