DC urged to take steps against child labour

From our Staff Correspondent
Dibrugarh, Nov 14: Dihing Welfare Society has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh district, Laya Madduri, highlighting the menace of child labor that has gripped the city. Lamenting over the issue, on behalf of the organization, Amman Uddin Ahmed in his letter said that although it had become a common sight to find children working as domestic servants, scrap collector, garbage collector, and beggars in the city, the society as well as the political class was callous to their plight.
While specifying several laws enacted by the government for the protection of child rights like the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Act 2017 and the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016 on Children’s Day, Ahmed  added that these laws were seldom brought into effect to safeguard their childhood and rights. Stressing the need for education of these unfortunate children, he requested the Deputy Commissioner to take necessary measures to put an end to the evil practice of child labour.
