Foundation stone of mega tourism development project laid

Joysagar, Jan 3: Chief Minister Sarbananda  Sonowal formally laid the foundation stone of the Charaidew district Mega Tourism Development Project worth about Rs 36 crore on Wednesday at the historic Charaidew Maidam. Sonowal in his speech said that Assam had a unique capacity to attract people from across the globe as her natural beauty was incomparable and the people of Assam were the best hosts. “Tourism can solve our unemployment problem to a great extent. The Government of Assam, therefore, has been preparing some unique and mega projects to reach this goal by 2022,” added Sonowal after he laid the foundation stone.
 The Charaidew district administration has organized the Charaidew Festival from December 31, 2017 to January  6 at Charaidew Maidam to develop and attract foreign tourists to Assam. In the foundation stone laying ceremony, Chief Minister Sonowal was accompanied by the Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Jorhat MP KP Tasa, Assam Tourism Development Board Director Jayanta Malla Baruah, MLAs of Mahmora, Sonari and Thowra, Charaidew Deputy Commissioner and many other high-level dignitaries. Besides, Sonowal also inaugurated the construction work of a boundary wall around the Charaidew Maidam on Wednesday. The Charaidew Maidam area is a historic place in the district, famous for the first Ahom capital constructed by Swargadew Chaw-lung-Chukafa in 1228 AD. The place should be recognized as a world heritage place, opined many dignitaries in their speeches today.
