Frequent road mishaps at Balipara cause concern

 From a Correspondent

Tezpur, Nov 13: People of the greater Balipara area in Sonitpur district, as well as organizations like AASU, AKRSU and Asom Sena have expressed concern over the laxity on the part of authority concerned for improving the deplorable roads and for constructing speed breakers to prevent road mishaps at NH-15 which passes through Balipara.
Sources said that the NH-15 road passes through Dighaligaon, Kekuri, Mansiri and Sarupatgaon areas of Balipara and due to poor condition of the road, frequent accidents take place. Despite repeated pleas, the authority concerned has turned a deaf ear to the people’s demand.
Local people as well as AKRSU, Asom Sena and several other associations had submitted memoranda to the road development authority and police administration for taking necessary action to prevent frequent accidents, but till date, the issue has not been addressed. The people of Balipara-Chariduar area have resented the total slackness on the part of the authority concerned.
Local people said that road accidents in various parts of Balipara had increased due to lack of speed breakers. In Tezpur 12 different road mishaps had taken place from November 4 to November 11 where 10 people reportedly died and the victims were mostly in the range of 19 years to 22 years. An official of the District Transport and Enforcement said, “The prime reasons for such frequent accidents may be race among bikers and reckless driving.  The riders should take precaution on the road and adhere to road safety rules and guidelines.”
