Government striving to develop tourism sector: Sonowal

Majuli, Jan 3: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday laid foundation stone of ‘Heritage Swadesh Darshan Project for Majuli’ at Majuli College field, Doriapar in Majuli.  Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the State government is striving to develop tourism sector of the state and a lot of initiatives have been taken to put Majuli in world tourism map by developing the island without harming its rich bio diversity. 
The Chief Minister informed that the an amount of Rs 60 crore has been earmarked for the Swadesh Darshan project at Majuli and additional Rs 15 crore would be spent for developing environment friendly residential facilities for tourists. Urging the people to extend all possible cooperation in preserving the cultural heritage of the river island, the Chief Minister said that keeping the ecology of Majuli intact is the government’s prime commitment.     
Saying that the State government is making all efforts for equal development of all sections of the people of the State, the Chief Minister said that welfare schemes have been undertaken in the last one and half years to take all the districts of the state towards rapid development.  Urging the people to keep a strict watch to ensure right implementation of the government projects and schemes, Sonowal said that all parts of the state must become epitomes of progress and prosperity. 
Notably, the heritage Swadesh Darshan project would encompass the components like an interpretation centre for tourists at Kamalabari Ghat, watch tower, cafeteria, floating barge, cruise service, boat rides etc. Similarly, workshop cum exhibition centre for showcasing indigenous mask making art at Samaguri Satra, bird watching towers with tourist amenities at five places in Majuli, emporiums of tribal clothes and cuisine along with weaving centres for making traditional tribal clothes and training centres would be built at Jengraimukh and Borgoya in the district.   
MP Pradan Baruah, ATDC Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah, DC Majuli Pallab Gopal Jha, Satradhikar of Uttar Kamalabari Satra Janardan Deba Goswami along with other xatradhikars were present on the occasion.
