Haflong, Feb 9: The Health and Family Welfare Department of Dima Hasao, in coordination with the Education and Social Welfare Department will organise National Deworming Day on February 14, disclosed SDM&HO Nodal Officer, Dr Lina Hakmaosa in a press meet held at the office of the Joint Director, Health Services, Dima Hasao, Haflong on Friday. Addressing the media, Dr Hakmaosa said that the main objective was to deworm all the children from 1 to 19 years at Government aided, private schools, Junior Colleges and at Anganwadi centers. She further said that the programme would be implemented in 1084 schools and 606 Anganwadi centers in Dima Hasao. It is a big initiative campaign to aware people about worm infestation, its bad effect on health, cure and prevention of further infection through deworming tablets and good habit practices. Worm infestation can cause anaemia, malnutrition, impair mental and physical development leading to serious threat to children’s health, education & productivity. Worms are transmitted by eggs present in human faeces which contaminate the soil in areas with poor sanitation in several ways.
