NSCN(K) cadre apprehended in Sonari

SIVASAGAR, Nov 10: Amid an escalating tension over serving of extortion demands to Sonari Truck Owners’/Drivers’ Association in Charaideo district bordering Nagaland, Indian Army captured a suspected NSCN(K) cadre from Sonari Town on the night of Thursday. According to sources, Indian Army in association with local police conducted an operation at Senigudam area in Sonari after receiving inputs of suspicious movement of an NSCN-K cadre in the area.
Army personnel during the operation succeeded in apprehending a person who is suspected to be an NSCN(K) cadre and have been moving in the area unleashing terror in the form of extortion. Identified as Kampai Kanyak, the security forces seized a .22 pistol, bullet and an extortion letter and 250 gm ganja from his possession. Then he was brought to Sonari police station for interrogation and it was revealed that he hails from Tizit Town of Nagaland’s Mon district. It needs to be mentioned that for last few days Sonari Truck Owners’/Drivers’ Association and many business persons of Sonari have been receiving extortion demands from the NSCN-K. If this suspected cadre is among the ones who have been sending the extortion notes then his apprehension will be regarded as a major success.
