Women varsity students stage protest

JORHAT, March 8: All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Jorhat unit, along with the students of Assam Women’s University submitted a memorandum to the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Narayan Konwar against the university’s recent de-recognition by the State Education Department.
Earlier, the University Act was passed in the year 2013 on the floor of the State Legislative Assembly and established in the year 2014. So far from 16 departments, two batches of around 524 students have passed out, while a total of 55 teachers are working in the university and 600 students are currently studying. In protest against the de-recognition of the university, the students came out on the streets and shouted slogans in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They blocked the AT Road for several hours along with the members from the Jorhat AASU unit, said Jitu Neog, the district secretary of Jorhat AASU unit.
