Contribute toward development of State, nation: Governor

Itanagar, Nov 10: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra on Friday called upon the students of North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) to contribute towards the development of society, alma mater, State and the nation.
Gracing the sixth convocation of the deemed university at its campus, the governor said that till the day of the convocation, the parents, guardians, institution and society have been contributing in the achievement of the passing out students. Now, it is the time that they pay back to the society.
Congratulating the students who were awarded degrees, Mishra emphasised the passing out students must strive to develop scientific temper, humanism and protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life, and to have compassion for living creatures as enshrined in the Constitution.
To remind the graduating students of their fundamental duties enshrined in the Indian Constitution, at the advice of the Governor, the printed copies of fundamental duties were given to the students along with their degrees.
The governor was highly impressed to see large number of girl students among the recipients of PhD degree during the felicitation.
The governor, who is also the president of NERIST Society, called upon the members of the faculty to be coach, friend, philosopher and guide to the students.
He emphasized the creation of learning atmosphere through a holistic academic management.
He suggested for two classes a week by the Director to built stronger bond between the students and the faculty, while stating that he himself will conduct interactive sessions with students once in a fortnight.
Stating that science and technology are the keys to national development, Mishra urged upon the teaching faculty and students to carry out research works and innovation, ensuring progress of the nation.
The Governor exhorted them to be self motivated and mission oriented and that they must set their goal, work hard and acquire knowledge. He also emphasized games and sports and extracurricular activities along with academic courses for the students.
