NERIST students call for new measures

From our correspondent
Itanagar, March 8: The Students’ Union of NERIST (SUN) has expressed deep resentment over the appointment of a regular director from within the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) despite its repeated objections.
The union questioned the HRD Ministry for not appointing the director from outside the institute as it was one of the demands of the students of NERIST. While announcing that their agitation over appointment of regular director was being suspended temporarily, SUN president Banta Natung strongly appealed to the new director Dr H S Yadav to provide hostel facilities and upgrade the technical laboratory, besides carrying out a Continuing Education Programme (CEP) for PhD scholars. Claiming that both the past glory and rank of NERIST have dwindled, the SUN president further appealed to the director to strictly monitor the absenteeism of faculty because of which the students are facing innumerable problems. “The rank of an institution improves only with performance of students. But without proper administration, we cannot expect such improvement,” said the student leader.
