Itanagar, Nov 14: One person died on the spot while several others were injured, when a night service bus on its way to Tezpur in Assam’s Sonitpur district from Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh, rolled over at Rupa mor, 16 kilometers away from Bomdila, the district headquarters of West Kameng district on Tuesday.
The accident occurred around 7.30 AM when the bus, with 40 passengers on board, tried to negotiate a sharp curve and a steep slope, a report from the district information and public relation officer stated.
Police, however, cited break failure as the apparent reason for the accident.
42-year-old Madan Thapa, who was working as chowkidar in the Public health engineering department at Bomdila, died on the spot while two others sustained grievous injuries.
The injured were immediately rushed to the nearby Army hospital but were later referred to Civil hospital at Tezpur. Eight passengers who received minor injuries were given medical care at Army hospital Rupa.
A police team from Rupa led by ASI Tashi Monpa and the Army personnel immediately responded to the crisis and safely evacuated the passengers.
