No confidence motion in KHADC falls flat

From A Reporter
SHILLONG, Oct 12: The no confidence motion moved by Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MDC Adelbert Nongrum against the Executive Committee in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) led by Chief Executive Member PN Syiem on the first day of the Council’s winter session here on Thursday was unfruitful as only six members favoured it. The Opposition was divided over the motion moved by the KHNAM MDC as only members for the regional party stood up in its favour, while Congress members led by Manstudy Nongrem did not stand up. Speaking to reporters later, Nongrem said, “We decided not to stand up because we were only informed about the move late last night by Nongrum and we had asked him to reach the Council at 9.30 am so as to discuss the matter with other members in the opposition. However, he arrived at 10.30 am.” He said the reason for the discussion is to understand the motion moved by him and the main points to be discussed on the floor of the House at the time of moving it. “The report tabled in the House by the EC is the same as the demand made by Nongrum to amend AD Rule 128, hence we decided not to stand up and instead discuss the report,” he said.
