NPP to use rally as launch pad for campaign

Shillong, Jan 3: The Nationalist People’s Party (NPP) will use Thursday public rally at Shillong as a launch pad for all the announced candidates (numbering 51) to formally start the campaigning process. The rally will also mark the formal welcoming of the eight sitting legislators from the Congress and UDP and introduction of the candidates  before embarking on the party mission to achieve the magic figure, stated the NPP leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Conrad Sangma told  The Sentinel on Wednesday,
 “ After the ground works done, we will formally kick off our campaign on Thursday before our candidates spreads out to their own legislative segments”, stated Sangma, even as he said that the party manifesto and agenda will be formally spelt out in the coming days. Already, sources said that the Congress defectors have already mobilized huge contingent of supporters to drive and march to the rally site. Asked on the monetary aspects, the Tura MP was apt in saying that those coming from the rural areas are ‘self contributory’. The NPP rally is expected to be a mammoth one, with the likes of Rowell Lyngdoh, Prestone Tynsong being in the itinerary of those who will address the occasion.
