THE POWER OF IGNITING IMAGINATION
When we look around us, some of the people we admire the most are creative and imaginative, whether it is artists, musicians, orators or designers. How did they get to be so creative? Where do they come up with those new concepts that dazzle the world? Is it luck? Do you have to be born with it? Those are questions that have not been answered yet. But there are many ways in which we parents can help foster creativity and imagination in our children. However, let us work in a different way today, and start by listing what we should NOT do as these are the ones none of us normally think of. It will help if we do NOT push for the one right answer. We parents often have a right answer fixation. What is the right answer fixation? It is the belief that there is only one right answer, and that is based on what we, as an adult think. For example, when our child shows us a square shape with wings that they have drawn and says that it is a plane, often our typical reaction is to say “N

The capital city woke up to the musical vibrancy of Northeast Indian music last week. The event, titled North East Junction, was held in the busy Dilli Haat from April 13 to 15 last and had a varied spectrum of musicians from the eastern-most frontier of the country. The event was organized by Assam Times, a pioneer online news portal promoting citizen journalism. A number of new-age bands from the region performed for the first time in an event dedicated solely to Northeast music. The featured bands included Assamese fusion band Bamboo Groove, Hindi metalcore The Mangalz, Tangkhul girls band Minute of Decay, The Aura, Negative Space and Mizo punk band Frisky Pints. Talking about the event, Assam Times editor and co-ordinator Babul Gogoi said, “It is said children of Northeast are born to the tune of music. Northeast rules in national cultural carnival
For connoisseurs of art and culture, Panchkula in Haryana was the place to be last week. This small township in the northern part of the country was host to the gala Silver Jubilee celebrations of the seven Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) of the country. For four consecutive days, the Panchkula parade ground became the perfect setting for visitors and families from the nearby towns and areas to converge and soak in the vibrancy of India’s rich culture and tradition laid out in front of them in a nutshell. The seven ZCCs had constructed their own special villages where they displayed the entire spectrum of the culture of the various communities in their zones, much to the delight of the thousands who thronged the venue, despite the storm that lashed Chandigarh earlier this month. The festival, titled ‘Matti ke Rang’, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the presence of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Minister for Culture Kumari Selja. Integration thro

Summer corporate wear? Try Peter Pan collar or shirtdress
If you want to wear loose fitting clothes to office in summer but dread that monotonous corporate look, here’s how to glam up. Put on a simple shirtdress, throw in a chic accessory or try a Peter Pan collar shirt to see the difference. Fashion experts suggest that comfortable fits in subtle colours, a bit of detailing, topped with minimal make-up, can do wonders to your work attire. “Summer is a season when you prefer loose fitting clothes over slim-fits to remain fresh and comfortable throughout office hours. So try monochromatic shirts or the shirtdress in different prints or in single tones,” says designer Mmonika Arora . “A shirtdress is more of a traditional dress with a bit of twist and fusion in its design and cut.
