| THE POWER OF HANDLING SKILLS |

| Thinking is often defined as ?the action of the mind? or ?reasoning? or ?being logical.? Thinking is language or symbolic behaviour, although all symbolic behaviour is not thinking. Language is a type of vicarious behaviour in which we react to places, people, things and events either present or not present. We call this type of behaviour ?thinking.? It may range from the simple description of past events and remote places and things (recall thinking), to the fantastic description of events that never occurred and places, people and things that never existed (imaginative thinking).
Enhancing thinking skills in our children is fun, thrilling and effective to stimulate them. It all starts with asking the right type of questions in an easy going manner ? systematic and well calibrated.

| THE KHARWANG |
|
| When you travel into the interior regions of West Karbi Anglong, you will come across a Kharwang traditional village at Mynser, about 70 kms in distance from Nellie. The villages are scattered and are mostly present at Mynser, Thangmo, Rumphum, Umtyrshing, Birsingki along the Assam-Meghalaya border of West Karbi Anglong. They are few in numbers, but belong to a Khasi tribe under the Jaintia lineage and follow a matrilineal system.
Literally, the meaning of the word Kharwang comes from the word ?Kher? which means ?belongs to? and ?wang? means ?to lay or spread?, since their ancestors laid out a rope around the village boundaries and dug trenches for defence purposes.
There is not a single record of the history, culture and religion of the Kharwang community, which prompted me to write this story. The Kharwangs have become an endangered community, with only a few speaking the Kharwang language.
