Maulavi Faiznur Ali: Trailblazer in true sense
Subhalakshmi Gogoi

In defiance, Maulavi Faiznur Ali made a statement. The period was pre-Independent India. The occasion was the visit of the Viceroy of India, Lord Chelmsford, to Dibrugarh. A meeting was organized in his honour. The task of delivering the welcome address fell on the then Chairperson of Dibrugarh Municipal Board. To feel elation at the privilege of speaking in the presence of the country?s highest administrator would have been natural. But not so for Maulavi Faiznur Ali. The Chairman preferred to tender his resignation rather than carry out, what must have been an odious assignment for him, an ardent nationalist.? He saw no glory in welcoming a person who reminded him of the yoke Indians were under.

End of an Era
Shibdas Bhattacharjee

(Regard, wealth, affection and even love, all these do not remain forever. Where I am today, someone else was yesterday. This is an era, that was an era too) This was the philosophy of Rajesh Khanna. Experience made him matured to face the challenges of life. This man saw crazy fans, tasted unprecedented success, bitterness of private relations, dejection and almost everything one can experience in a single life. He made celluloid expression of all these during his four decade long film career. Emotions came to him as tides hitting a shore...

Into the world of witches
Ringkhang Baglari

Growing up in a rural environ, as children, we would hear stories of how a witch or Daini brought misfortune to a certain family or had caused someone?s death through her spells. That, they even tamed spirits and could make someone fall in love or turn someone into tigers and pigs by the look of an eye, are some of the stories we would often hear. And we heard all that, with our breaths caught up in the throat in awe and fear. It really sounded incredible, how one could achieve all that with ?Tantra?, ?Mantras?.
