When is the right time to break-up?

We wish there was some measuring instrument, some device for our emotional dilemmas that could help us in answering life’s difficult questions. However, it seems there is no other way except honest and often painful, self-introspection. When trying to evaluate whether it is the right time to break-up with your loved one, try to compare your mindset with the following:

1. You start discovering things about her that annoy you:

Strangely, when we are attracted to somebody, our judgment gets clouded to the extent that any irritating habits or annoying personality traits in a person are not noticed. This is usually the case during the initial part of any relationship. Gradually, partners tend to realize such characteristics. If they are genuinely in love or seek a future together, they try to accept or make adjustments to ensure that their relationship doesn’t suffer. However, if you don’t feel the need to pacify such issues with her and instead, choose to micro-manage and criticize some traits in her that seem to have surfaced suddenly, it underlines that you are not ready to invest emotionally in the relationship.

2. The guilt is missing

Calls from your ex-girlfriends or stares from someone hitting upon you in the office, previously made you uncomfortable. You would get anxious at the thought that how she would react if she ever came to know that you have entered the niche of adultery, even in the most passive form. Now, you no longer get the guilt pangs and feel comfortable to stare and exchange suggestive eye glances with ladies who now seem possible prospects to you.

3. You feel suffocated

Every guy is prone to feeling a bit claustrophobic in a relationship that seems to be going steady, heading towards something serious—that fear of commitment is natural. Getting anxious about such things isn’t a cause for worry. However, if you feel uncomfortable to the extent that being with your girlfriend makes you feel gasping for independence, it suggests a serious problem. This is similar to a relationship being forced upon you from which you want to break free.

4. Spending time with her seems like a task you should perform

If you feel unenthusiastic about the prospect of spending time with her, it surely means that the initial chemistry that brought you folks together has now fizzled out. If the sense of eagerness that overcame you by merely thinking about meeting her in the future seems anesthetized, it is a definite sign that somewhere deep inside you are no longer genuinely interested in her. She might be still as gorgeous when you first met her but if you feel that spending time with her is now akin to a chore that you ‘should’ perform, the relationship has already weakened a lot.

5. Confiding in her doesn’t make sense anymore

You always thought of her as the real partner you had been searching for and could confide in her, the darkest, ugliest aspects of your life. Now, she seems distant or it feels that she can no longer help you in dealing with your demons. If you feel that confiding in her seems like talking to just another friend, it suggests that she has lost that special place in your heart, that pedestal of trust you had given her.

6. Her charm seems to be diluting slowly

The little things about her, whether pleasing or strange, once made her so unique and lovable for you. The strange sound she makes when laughing, the way she flutters her eyes every time your compliment her and the way she breathes heavily on the phone now don’t seem to matter anymore. If the small birthmark she has on her hip or the fruity smell of shampoo in her hair no longer seem special you, it’s an indication that your adoration for her has sizzled out.

7. She doesn’t arouse you anymore

Everything about her, the slightest glance at her toned arms, her pouty lips, her long hair and the way her hips swayed when walking used to turn you on—now, these things don’t seem to matter. This suggests the raw, carnal instincts that bond two people physically have gradually worn-out. (Agencies)
