Careers and Jobs related to Christmas

Its Christmas time and the time to welcome another New Year. People all around the world are in festive moodas they are gearing up to welcome the New Year. When people are in a holiday mood or in a festive mood, we can think of some options and opportunities for our professional growth. Yes, you are right. I am talking about events and event management. Event management is an emerging career option which has much scope. I shall write more about events management in the next edition. In this edition I am writing about certain career opportunities which are directly or indirectly linked with celebrations like Christmas.

Some of the career options are holiday planners, baking, decoration, organizing winter camps for kids and others events, organizing shopping carnivals, gift wrapping in style, flower arrangements or decoration and also volunteering, which may be paid or unpaid.
Holiday Planner: During holidays, people go out to new places to explore. Holiday planning is important if one wants to get value for money. People who are involved in holiday planning are called as holiday planners. Tours and travel agencies are the agencies which conduct holiday planning. People with a degree in travel and tourism and management can think of becoming holiday planners. A holiday trip planner is dedicated to preparing travelling plans which aims to help the travelers plan their individual trips to different destinations, either domestic or international. During Christmas time, many people go on travel so holiday planners are in demand during this time. Holiday planning can be done individually or in through companies and associations.
Baking: It is a method of cooking food that uses prolonged dry heat, normally in an oven, but also in hot ashes, or on hot stones. The most common baked item is bread but many other types of foods are baked. Baking is a career that demands lots of creativity, commitment and passion for food. It is an exciting career for those with an intrinsic interest in cooking, who have natural culinary talents, artistic skill and social nature. From cookies and gingerbread, to biscotti and shortbread, baking during Christmas is a profitable business. One may learn baking and other cooking through regular courses or short term courses.
Decoration:The festive season also involves decoration. The scope for decorations may range from small decoration to big time decorations. Decorations at an event are necessary for setting the mood, framing the emotion and underscoring the importance of an event. From crepe paper streamers to professionally-designed displays of color and beauty, decorations generally work within a theme determined by event sponsors and coordinators, setting the stage for the bulk of the event proceedings.A Christmas decoration is any of several types of ornamentation used at Christmastime.Christmas decorations are typically put up in late November or early December, usually to coincide with the start of Advent.
Winter Camps:As kids and children have school holidays during this time, one of the activities which can be organisedis winter camps. These camps can be for two to three daysor more. Thesecamps may be held inside the house or outdoors as well. Apart from children camps, similar camps can be organized for elders as well. Some of the winter camps can be planned in an adventurous manner with icesports or similar activities in cold places. One needs to plan the camps well so that it becomes effective and profitable.
ChristmasCarnivals:As people are fond of shopping, Christmas is one of the best occasions to organise carnivals. These carnivals are meant not only for shopping but includes other activities too. This is popular in many countries. These carnivals are organised in different cities in India too. Entrepreneurs may think of organizing Christmas carnivals which can be linked to New Year celebrations.
Digital Sale: As people spend a lot of time online nowadays, one of the new emerging options is to provide a platform for shopping/buying digitally. This can be done through apps or websites. Things can be sold online with apps and websitesas well. Beginners may start social media sites to sell their products. One needs to have good networking and internet knowledge to excel in digital trade or selling.
There are many other options apart from those mentioned above. The best part is one does not need much formal qualification to be part of these professions. Some of the qualities which are important are skills like good communication skill, self confidence and must be able to manage people and also work in team, etc. Having good knowledge over language, including writing, is another advantage. Leadership skills and ability to work under pressure are also qualities which are needed.
In this regard, we have to underscoreonce again the value of time, which means service must be provided on time. People who are lazy have no place in this profession, one need to be fast and connected with technology like internet and others. Students of Management, Mass Communication or Public Relations can also take up this profession. This is a profession which demands high perfection, hard work and a lot of patience. With the event management industry poised to grow by leaps and bounds, trained candidates have excellent job opportunities related to occasions like Christmas. The success of an event or carnival depends upon its capacity to procreate themes that have never been thought of before.
