Eating Out

Foodies in Dibrugarh have a new address in town. Yes, we are talking about Fat Belly Cafe & Restaurant, which has within a very short span of time, become one of the most happening joints in the sleepy upper town of Assam.

Located on the main road of Convoy Road, the restaurant is strategically placed near the Dibrugarh Outdoor Stadium. The terrace of the restaurant provides a wonderful panoramic view of the entire outdoor stadium where cricket competitions are held on a regular basis. The place was launched on September 24 earlier this year and within a very short span of time, it has managed to rope in a regular clientele of its own.
Fat Belly is the brainchild of Saurav Gogoi and his wife Deepsikha - both foodies at heart and who both love to try different kinds of cuisine. As Gogoi says, "Within a very short period of time, we have got a good response from the people. Our publicity is generally by word of mouth and it is really encouraging to see lots of people come to our cafe and try our dishes."
Dwelling on the concept behind starting the cafe and restaurant, Gogoi says, "The main concept of the restaurant is its food! I want to serve Fast Food with a variety of global food, periodically changing the menu with different types of food items. We focus more on the student crowd as more than a thousand students live in the nearby areas."
The basic idea is to provide "hygienic food at a minimal cost so that students can get their desired food at a reasonable price," says Gogoi, adding, "The USP of the restaurant is that it's on the main road of Convoy Road and its terrace can be accessed to get a whole view of the outdoor stadium."
Coming to the menu, the food items are pretty reasonable and affordable. According to Gogoi, "Our price range starts from Rs 50 for a bowl of Vegetable Fried rice (one person serving) to Rs 500/- for a butter chicken." He adds, "We target the family crowd as well. Families usually come in the evening for dinner or for light snacks." An average cost for a meal for two would be roughly Rs 140 (1 big bowl of Chicken Fried rice or chicken Hakka noodles )
To aid Gogoi in providing a delectable dining experience, he has the support of a team of versatile and highly trained kitchen staff members. "My main chef has an experience of 25 years in the F&B industry. His Indian recipes are great and so are his other Chinese and Continental dishes. He had previously worked in Guwahati, Dibrugarh Gymkhana club, etc. My other chef has earlier worked in Shillong."
So if you are in Dibrugarh and looking for a nice and comfortable place to hang out, enjoy some really affordable food items while watching the cricketers play in the outdoor stadium, you must definitely make it a point to visit Fat Belly Cafe and Restaurant.
