'I love to capture emotions and feelings of people'

The photography arena of Assam and Northeast India has witnessed a kind of resurgence in the recent past. The availability of the latest in technological equipment and an increasing number of platforms for displaying one's work have combined to give rise to a new generation of photographers. This new guard of photographers are slowly, yet steadily, climbing up the ranks to compete with the best in the world of photography. Although not yet household names, they hold a lot of promise to be frontrunners in the field.

One such young and talented photographer in our midst is NandiniGogoi. Born and brought up in the oil township of Duliajan in Upper Assam, Nandini is a former State-level Badminton player who is now making her work in the world of photography. A specialist in wedding photography and baby shoots, she is the co-founder of Cupid Dreams - a team of photographers.

Talking about her childhood, Nandini says, "I was born and brought up in Duliajan as the eldest of three sisters. I am lucky to have had very supportive parents who fuelled my love for sports and the arts. I'm a very fun loving person. I always thank my parents for whatever I am today because they have always encouraged me to be who I am and dowhatever my heart desires".Nandini had started playing Badminton since she was 14 years of age.

Nandini's love affair with the camera started right at home when she started taking family photos. "My interest in photography started at home itself when I used to click random pictures or family photos. As my interest grew, I joined a photography institute - PVTI - to learn the finer nuances of the profession. I began with small projects and assignments," says Nandini.

She is also a member of the Photography Club of Assam (PCA) - an apex body of photographers of the country. "It was in PCA that I metmy colleagues, RejaulArshad and RJ, and decided to start working professionally as a team of wedding photographers. We are called Cupid Dreams," she says, adding, "We are striving to keep Cupid Dreams wedding photography at par with the national level."

The upbeat photographer has fond memories of her photo shoot for the NDTV teleivion serial, Band Baajaa bride with Sabyasachi. She adds, "Besides that, I remember the shoot of a 10-days old baby girl. That photo is particularly memorable because newborn baby photoshoots is a very new concept in Assam. I did satisfactory work and I am happy with my own work."

She further says,"I love to capture emotions and feelings of people; it fascinates me a lot. Beside photography, I love traveling. Whenever I get time, I go for mountain trekking trips. it gives me a lot of mental peace." Her love for nature is evident when she says, "Nature teaches us to respect everything. My motto is give respect and take respect."

Nandini believes that the photography scenario in Assam is all poised to take a greater leap. In her own words, "It's really great to see so many youngsters taking up photography as a hobby as well as making it into a profession. The scenario is improving day by day and I hope better days lie ahead!"
