Sardar promises to make Indian hockey more attractive in 2015

New Delhi, December 31: Captain Sardar Singh on Wednesday promised to make Indian hockey team’s style of play more attractive and enjoyable to watch for the fans next year.

“My resolution (for 2015) is to maintain and improve my skills to help me be more beneficial to my teammates on the field,” the talismanic centre–half said, according to an Intertiol Hockey Federation (FIH) release.

“I want to make hockey, and Indian team’s performance in particular, even more enjoyable to watch,” said the 29–year–old, who led the team to an Asian Games gold medal after a gap of 16 years and a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games.

Irish goalkeeper David Harte said: “My New Year resolution will be to continue to do everything I possibly can to get to the Rio Olympics with Ireland.”

Moritz Furste, the player of the tourment at the recently concluded Champions Trophy in Bhubaneswar, where his team Germany were crowned champions, wished to remain injury–free.

“My resolution will be to stay healthy and to just do what I like to do. Don’t wan waste any time. Just wan enjoy life.”

Australian goal–scoring hero Kieran Govers’ resolutions were focused on material things: “Hey, my resolution will be planning my career away from hockey and to look at purchasing a new car and third house!”

Argenti’s superstar goalkeeper Belen Succi, whose incredible performances in Mendoza helped secure the Champions Trophy for her team, said: “Next year we will focus on qualification for the Olympics in 2016, by preparing for the Pan American Games and the World League. It will be a busy year and we will start thinking about the fil goal, which will be the Olympics in Brazil.” (IANS)
