Employees start New Year with new resolve

DIBRUGARH, January 2: Employees of various government departments in the district started the New Year with the determition to work towards making Dibrugarh district the best one.

The resolve found expression in the addresses of many speakers during a meeting cum interactive session organized by the Dibrugarh Zilla Karmachari Parishad (DZKP) with the support of Anchalik Karmachari Parishad at the DRDA conference hall here on Thursday. Officers and employees of government departments were in attendance. The meeting held to welcome the New Year was iugurated by the Advisor of All Assam Jourlists’ Union (AAJU), I Ahmed, while tiol award winning teacher, Gandheshwar Saikia, did the honour for the interactive session. Forty recently retired government employees were felicitated on the occasion.

The secretary of DZKP, Dilip Singh, spoke on the objective of the meeting while the president of the organization, Indra Gogoi, who also chaired the occasion, delivered the welcome address. In his iugural speech, Ahmed called for a minute’s silence in memory of the children killed in terror attacks.

The Deputy Commissioner, MS Manivann, appreciated the initiative of the DZKP to organize such a program that was different from the usual.

He said he was encouraged and acknowledged the role of employees in administering the district.

However, the DC also talked about the differences that exist between these government servants and stated that the solution would have to be found through interactions. He called on all to become more punctual this year. The issue of high materl mortality rate in the district, especially in the tea garden areas, found place in his address. Manivann called on the health workers to approach their work with the desire to serve people in their hearts.

The Joint Director of Health Services, Dr Amrit Baruah, who was present on the occasion, deplored the high death of mothers in child birth and said that he would work to reduce it by half in the current year.

Among those who attended the meeting were ADC Jogesh Baruah, the Principal of Assam Medical College, Prof Atindra Adhikary, Inspector of Schools, Dr Tilok Saikia, Deputy Inspector of Schools, Sangita Baruah Saikia, Treasury Officer, Hemanta Kalita, Social Welfare Officer, Tapan Barua, and the Secretary of Dibrugarh District Jourlists’ Association, Ratan Hazarika.
