Burdwan blast case: Eight day NIA custody for three

Kolkata, January 3: A court here on Saturday sent to eight–day NIA custody three people bbed from Assam in connection with the sensatiol Burdwan blast.

Eight other accused presented before the court were remanded to judicial custody till January 16.

The acting chief judge of Bankshall court G Talukdar sent Rafikul Islam, Saiful Islam, and Sahanur Alam to tiol Investigation Agency custody till January 9. The three were presented to the court on the basis of a production warrant issued by it.

NIA lawyer Shyamal Ghosh sought 10 days’ custody for the trio arguing they were the key accused in the October 2 blast in which two people had died at Khargragarh in Burdwan district when bombs kept in a house accidentally exploded. He also submitted the three had links with Bangladeshi terror outfit Jamaat–ul–Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Following a prayer by the NIA, eight others – Hashem Mollah, Razia Bibi, Abdul Hakim, Myanmar tiol Khaled Mohammad, Alima Bibi, Zia–ul–Haq, Amjad and JMB commander Sajid A – were sent on judicial remand till January 16. Hakim was injured in the October 2 blast. Khaled was arrested from Hyderabad. Probing the blast, the NIA has arrested several people including Bangladeshi tiols. (IANS)
