Gaang Ngai festival under way

IMPHAL, January 3: The five–day colourful and entertaining Gaang Ngai festival of the Zeliangrong tribe was iugurated today at Mahakabui mching village in Sepati district by the deputy chief minister Gaikhangam Gangmei, himself belonging to this tribe.

There will be lots of dances, competitions among men, women and children during the festival. People from the State, other NE states and tourists are coming to the festival.

In his brief address at the iugural function, Gangmei said that this traditiol festival will help consolidate the love and understanding among the 40 tribes and communities in the State.

There are Zeliangrong populations in Manipur, galand and Assam. This is the 20th state level festival in the state.

All sections of people have extended support and good wishes to the festival.

Governor K.K. Paul, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and others have also extended wishes to the festival.
