Role of media and police in society discussed

lbari, Jan 3: lbari Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Om Prakash, while addressing a symposium on the topic ‘The role of media in public and police relationship’ organized by lbari district police in lbari on Saturday, said that media had a great role in society.

He urged jourlists to serve the society by reporting clear facts and truth. He also urged them to form public opinion for the right cause. The DC appealed to the media to cooperate with the government and administration for the greater interest of the society.

MS Haque, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, while addressing the symposium laid stress on the socio aspect and impartiality in presenting news by the media. He also asserted the role of police in the present situation. He urged police personnel to respond properly with people.

Samudragupta Kashyap, who attended the symposium as resource person, discussed the role of media towards the police and society and the role of police towards the society for development and peace.  He said that independence and sensitive media were key elements in a democracy. He also said that media was the bridge between the government and those who were governed.

Kashyap said the media shaped ideas and created perceptions in the minds of people. Media kept people informed about the government’s activities. He said that the police had an equally important role in the welfare of people and that the police must work with honestly and sincerity.

Earlier, Dr Bedanta Madhav Rajkhowa, SP lbari, explained that the objective of the symposium was to highlight the role of police towards the society to maintain law and order and peace in the society.
