Change of command in Red Horns Division

Guwahati, January 4: As security forces stepped up its offensive in Northern and Lower Assam following the NDFB(S) massacres, Indian army’s Red Horns Division, responsible for commanding the operations in BTAD and other parts of Lower Assam, today got a new General Officer Commanding.

Major General AK Bhatt relinquished command of the Division after serving for 12 months as the General Officer Commanding of the Red Horns Division.

Major General CP Mohanty, took over charge of Red Horns Division from Bhatt. On taking charge, Major General Bhatt expressed happiness at having received yet another opportunity to serve in Northeast and assured that Red Horns Division will continue to stand by the people of Assam.

The General has a varied combat experience and in command and staff appointments including the command of his battalion in counter terrorist operations. He has also teted a variety of important instructiol and staff appointments in different Army establishments and formations as well as in the IHQ of Ministry of Defence.

On the other hand, outgoing Major General Bhatt had earned many feathers to his cap. Prominent among his achievements are the containment of terrorism to a mageable level to facilitate development work by the civil administration and significantly contributed to make Lower Assam a safer place, an army press release said.

The officer has always considered himself a part of Assam and has strived hard to secure a better life for the general populace – be it the mammoth relief operations in the wake of the floods or maintence of law and order during ethnic clashes and also various initiatives undertaken under Sadbhav which have helped the populace in fulfilling various needs. Major General Bhatt, wished peace, prosperity and happiness to the people of India’s North East and Assam.
