Demand for polls to Tiwa Autonomous Council

From Our Correspondent

Morigaon, January 4: Activists of the All Tiwa Protection Committee, led by general secretary Mak Chandra Bordoloi, staged a dhar on Sunday to demand dissolution of the present Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) and holding of elections in February. They were joined by activists of the All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU), Tiwa Yuba Chatra Parishad (TYCP), All Tiwa Women’s Union (ATWU), Tiwa Women Welfare Society (TWWS), ADSF and Tiwa Eaikya Moncha (TEM).

In a press release, the organizations said that the vile political conspiracy of a selfish section of the leaders of the council had made the council unstable since the past two years. After the election of TAC was held for the first time in June,2010, the council was supposed to take up development works but this did not happen due to the conspiracy of some leaders. Since development works are being hampered due to the ego–centrism of these leaders, the council should be dissolved and fresh polls to the council must be held, stated the release.
