Year’s first rhino poached in Kaziranga

Guwahati, January 4: A rhino was killed by poachers in Kaziranga in the first case of poaching this year in the Unesco World Heritage Site. The incident took place near the Kathalsang camp of the Burapahar range of the park. Forest officials said the male adult rhino is believed to have been killed at around 3.40 in the morning. Its horn was chopped off and taken away by the poachers. The officials said around six empty cartridges of AK47 rifles were found near the incident site. A male rhinoceros was today killed by poachers and its horn taken away by them in Kaziranga tiol Park (KNP). In 2014, a total of 28 rhinoceros were killed by poachers in the park.
