BJP eyes 25 lakh members in State

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, January 5: At a time when the Congress in Assam is making all–out effort to regain its lost ground and infuse confidence in the party under the leadership of party president Anjan Dutta, after the last Lok Sabha poll drubbing, the BJP is also not sitting idle and has started its work targeting the 2016 Assembly polls in the State.

As part of its strategy, the BJP is presently conducting massive membership drive  throughout the State.

Assam BJP spokesman Jiten Sharma said, “Already 16 lakh people have joined the party as its members within just two months, which is highest in the country.”

Sharma said huge response of people towards the BJP was the result of the Congress party’s misrule in the State. “Given the huge response, we have decided to continue the membership drive till March 31 this year and our target is 25 lakh members.”

The State BJP spokesperson alleged that the worried Congress had started spreading wrong information about the BJP and its work.

Party sources said that BJP tiol president Amit Shah would visit the city on February 3 to take part in a series of party workers’ meetings and discuss strategies for upcoming civic polls and the next year’s Assembly elections in the State.
