NBCC ready with its plan

SHILLONG, January 7: The tiol Building Construction Company (NBCC) has completed the master plan to construct the purported “Times Square” of Shillong to be located at Polo. The NBCC ,which is an implementing agency, is ready for a representation before the Chief Minister for his approval and if endorsed the construction work of the project is expected to start by this year, informed the State Minister of Urban Affairs Amapareen Lyngdoh after a review meeting with the top officials at the state secretariat on Wednesday. The Rs 21 crore project was conceived by the MUA government. The project which will shape up the old polo market into a state of the art shopping complex that will span around 5000 square metres. The timely preparation of the plan is believed to be materialized after Chief Minister Mukul Sangma directed the NBCC to take advance measures of submitting the design of the project for approval. The Department of Urban affairs has also proposed to acquire the triangle junction in Polo area alongside the implementation of the Polo market project. She also said that the department is also waiting for the filization of the new land acquisition act. She said that there are certain commitments that have to be taken for consideration in view of the revised Land Acquisition Act.
