Oil exploration stopped at Kandulibari

DIBRUGARH, January 7: Several organizations and local people of Rohmoria put a stop to the oil exploration efforts by Oil India Limited (OIL) at Kandulibari under Mukalbari tea estate in Dibrugarh district.

The Rahmaria regiol committee of Sadou Asom Mottock Yuba–Chatra Sanmilan (SAMYCS) in collaboration with several other organizations took up the step on January 6 as they are demanding the solution of their various problems.

The local unit of SAMYCS had made it clear that they would prevent oil exploration in the area till their demands were fulfilled. Their demands include rehabilitation of locals affected by the ongoing work, employment to all unemployed youth of the area and social development of the villages and tea gardens which fall under the area where exploration activities are going on. The chief advisor of the regiol unit, Harikanta Dowerah, said that their blockade would continue till the erosion and other problems were not addressed by OIL.
