Couple kidpped in Manipur

IMPHAL, January 8: A denizen of Guwahati identified as Gopal Poddar and his Manipuri wife, Jenevic Kom, were kidpped by some armed persons on the night of January 6 from the materl residence Kom.

Along with their three–year–old daughter, the couple had come to attend the wedding function of Alister Kom, the elder brother of the housewife at Tonsen Khullen in Chandel district.

Reports said that on the wedding night there was a loud knock at 10:30 pm which is very late by the standard of the Manipuris. The unwelcomed person wanted some water to drink. The family members asked him to come the following day since it was too late. But he kicked open the door. He along with some others barged into the room and beat up the family members by holding them at gun point. They also pulled down the partition door of the newly weds.

Later, they whisked away Poddar and his wife leaving the baby crying. It is feared that the armed persons might have kidpped the couple for extracting huge ransom.  Till the time of filing this report the family has not heard anything from the kindappers. Police and the 22 Assam Rifles located nearby have denied any hand in the incident. A police complaint has been lodged. The family is also appealing to the abductors to release them since the baby is in trouble.
