Remembering Ekth Rade, man behind rock memorial

SILCHAR, January 8: Ekth Rade, the man behind Vivekanda Rock Memorial in the mid sea at Kanyakumari and also the founder of Vivekanda Kendra Kanyakumari, a spiritually oriented service Mission to spread the message of Swami Vivekanda among the masses, would be fondly remembered with profound homage to him  by Vivekanda Kendra Vidyalaya, Meherpur, near here, through celebration of his birth centery on January 11. On this occasion, a statue of Swami Vivekanda doted by NIT Director N V Deshpandey  would be iugurated in the premises of Vivekanda Kendra.

Addressing the media persons, Angshu Kumar Roy, vice–president of Swami Vivekanda  Pratimurty Udbodhan Samiti, said Ekthji was the founder of Vivekanda Kendra Kanyakumari in 1972. It is now spread over 800 branch centres in 24 states of the country. Its activities are centred round rural welfare, education, health, publication, research, yoga, awareness camps and programmes for all stratum of society.

Roy added to say Vivekanda Kendra has planned  a year long celebration from November 19, 2014 to conclude on the same day of 2015 in order to consolidate and strengthen the service activities of Kendra. Barak Valley vibhag of Vivekanda Kendra has planned it on January 11. As a part of its preparation for the grand celebration, Maneeya Ekthji Janma Shati Parva samitis of Silchar, Badarpur and Karimganj have organised nine youth workshops on ’Born to succeed’ in various colleges. Around 600 students have been benefited. Along with that, three youth conventions and two lecture cum discussion sessions were also held for the enlightened sections of society, he pointed out.

Niharendu Dhar, secretary of Swami Vivekanda Pratimurty Udbodhan Samiti  (SVPUS) said the iuguration of a statue of Swami Vivekanda in Vivekanda  Kendra Vidyalaya would definitely be a milestone in the year long celebration.. The three months long preparation started from September 28 last where the first meeting was held to form Swami Vivekanda Pratimurty Udbodhan Samity consisting of people from different walks of life from the valley.

Mulchand Chanda Baid, Vice President, SVSPU, pointed out the support of people in various forms like physical, mental and fincial among others have helped us to complete the works and get ready for iugurating the statue on the occasion of Swami Vivekanda’s 152nd jayanti. The iugural ceremony would be iugurated by Swami Pitambaranda Maharaj, a senior monk of Ramkrish order, Belur Math. Gokul Mohan Hazarika, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, and Pravin Dabholkar, joint general secretary, Vivekanda Kendra Kanyakumari, would also grace the occasion. Also present at the press–meet was Kamalakanta Baliarsing, administrative officer, Vivekanda Kendra .
