Another rhino killed

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

Guwahati, January 9:  Another rhino was killed in the State today. The carcass of the rhino, the second to be killed this year, was found from Burha Chapori near Dhing in gaon district. The horn and the ils of the animal had been removed and taken away by the crimils. Forest officials said the animal was found buried in the sand, which suggests that the killers might not be organized poachers and instead settlers who wanted to make money by trading the animal parts. The officials said that the rhino apparently strayed out of Kaziranga tiol Park.

The incident took place two days after Governor PB Acharya expressed serious concern over the ubated incidents of rhino poaching and suggested an overhaul of the security set–up. He even castigated the forest minister and his staff, albeit indirectly.

When asked his comments on the Governor’s statement, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said, “Incidents of rhino poaching has come down. Yes, even we are concerned and want to stop it completely.”

“The Governor has certain constitutiol powers and he can advise the government on matters,” he said.

Gogoi also said the Governor has not asked the State government to transfer forest personnel as stated in a section of media.
