Implement Meghalaya Agriculture Policy: JACAMFU

SHILLONG, Aug 28: The Joint Action Committee of All Meghalaya farmers Union (JACAMFU) on Friday pressed the Mukul Sangma led government to initiate steps in implementing the Meghalaya Agricultural Policy in order to ease the problems of the agricultural community from various setbacks. Submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, the JACAMFU proposed eight action plans of action to ensure food and nutritiol security and economic growth to the farmers through accelerated and sustaible growth. “The government has to adopt a policy like those in Punjab and Rajasthan, so that on the one hand the living conditions of the farmers can be improved and on the hand the production of agricultural produce can be increased,” the memorandum stated while reminding the State government about the current revenue loss due to ban on mining of tural deposits like coal and limestone.

The agricultural policy, if implemented will surely unravels options for addressing major issues in agricultural development from both short-term and long-term perspective, felt the farming community that came under one banner.

Besides calling for recognition of broom sticks as the agricultural produce and to provided fincial; assistance to the farmers involving in Squash (chow-chow) vegetation to make the farmers earn have a lucrative earnings, the JACAMFU demand from the government to make public notification as regards to any government schemes through the line departments in order make the framers know about the available schemes.
