AASU demands action against Bhergaon SDPO

TANGLA, May 10: An AASU delegation headed by AASU assistant general secretary Jayanta Kr. Bhattacharjya and Udalguri AASU president and general secretary Pranjal Patowary and Saiful Haque submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri, Dilip Das demanding strict disciplinary action against Bhergaon SDPO Barun Purkayastha, who along with his guards, allegedly assaulted the secretary of Tangla AASU unit, Rinku Deka on the night of May 8.

The memorandum stated that ever since the IPS officer joined as Bhergaon SDPO, there had been numerous incidents of physical and mental torture on innocent Assamese youth by the bureaucrat and he even threatened many of dire consequences. The memorandum signed by president and secretary of Tangla AASU stated about the three-hour road blockade at Tangla Charali on May 9 in protest against the incident and demanded  disciplinary action against the officer and his guards involved. They also demanded that the PWD (IB) building occupied by the Bhergaon SDPO should be immediately vacated and the safety and security of common people should be ensured.

 A copy of memoramdum was also forwarded to the Chief Minister, DGP Assam Police; Assam Human Rights Commission; Superintendent of Police, Udalguri and Bhergaon SDO(C). The organization threatened to launch protest programmes if the issue was not looked into.
