Kokrajhar, May 10: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary, who is also the president of the BPF, on Thursday said that his party would take political opportunities for the interest of the development of the region which was lagging behind in various sectors. Talking to reporters after attending the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-formed executive body of Religious Minority Council (RMC) led by Abjal Hoque Sarkar, Mohilary said his party was a small regional party and thus the party would take political opportunity for the greater interest of development of the region. He said the BTC had been working for the rapid development of the region since it came to power. He also said his council had been working with impartial outlook for equal development of all communities of the region. He further said no community would be discriminated in BTC.

Mohilary said the BPF would support any party that was sympathetic towards the fast development of BTC region. “We have no way but to support and take opportunity for the greater interest of development of the BTC region as our party is a small regional party,” he said, adding that BPF was committed and would work as per its commitment. He called upon all communities to extend support to the BPF to serve the people of the region. He further called upon both factions of RMC to reunite and work for the community.

On the other hand, the Aminur Rahman faction of the RMC called a press meet at Kokrajhar Press Club just after the oath-taking ceremony of the Abjal Hoque Sarker faction. Aminur said their faction was the original one but Abjal had split it into two. He said the founder of RMC, Md. Baktar Ali had led the council for over 20 years as his parental property. He said that time had come for the Abjal faction to return to the mainstream faction. He also said BPF president Hagrama Mohilary’s call for unification was laudable but the other faction should come back to the main RMC.
