LAKHIMPUR, May 10: Massive protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, continue in Lakhimpur. The activists of the Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Unemployed Youth Association on Thursday burnt the controversial bill as mark of strong opposition against the Union government’s move to grant citizenship to the Hindu foreigners who came from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Binod Das, the president, and Khirod Das, the secretary of the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization, in the presence of more than hundred activists, expressed strong resentment against the bill while staging the protest in front of Adarsha Bazaar in North Lakhimpur town.

On the other hand, the Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Moria Students’ Union staged sit-in in front of the Lakhimpur DC office on Thursday opposing the bill. The organization submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee demanding to hold public hearing in Upper Assam regarding the bill.
