Postal department continue with strike

Our Correspondent

Silchar, May 25: The anti Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) policy of the government has made life miserable for the employees. A large number of basic demands have not been fulfilled by the government. Finding no other means, All India Postal Employees’ Union, NFPE, GDS and All India Gramin Dak Sevak Union, Cachar have resorted to an indefinite strike on May 22 at Silchar head post office. The strike is still continuing. Postal departments of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Dima Hasao districts have too joined in the protest demonstration.

Leading from the front, Niam Uddin Laskar, divisional secretary, AIPEU (GDS), said, “The government and the post department’s anti GDS mindset are affecting the Union. Kamalesh Chandra Commission submitted its recommendations around one and half years ago. Till now, no concrete steps have been taken to implement the recommendations for GDS pay revision as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). Government is not taking any step for renewal of GDs posts. The recommendations are related to the salary structure and other service matters and problems of GDSs.”
