Biswanath Chariali, May 26: Senior advocate of Gauhati High Court and columnist Arup Borbora said on Saturday that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was going to destroy the greater Assamese community and the Central Government has made all arrangements for it.

He was taking part as the chief guest in a citizen’s meet held at Binapani Natya Mandir organized by Biswanath District Journalists’ Union in association with the press clubs of Biswanath Chariali, Behali and Halem. Advocate Borah added that the people of Assam had been forced to struggle for its survival from time to time. He also elaborated the history behind the bill. The persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh is baseless and there is a hidden agenda behind it for the expansion of Hinduism in the State in the interest of setting up a vote bank, he claimed.

Inaugurating the meet, Pankaj Kumar Nath, president of All Assam Journalists’ Union (AAJU) called upon everyone to get united at this crucial juncture of the Assamese nation. The meet was presided over by Naren Borah, president of Biswanath District Journalist’ Union while the objectives were explained by Ratan Bhuyan.
