Mahanta dashes off letter to PM & Gadkari

GUWAHATI, May 27: Former two-time chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has dashed off letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighting underdevelopment at his Barhampur Assembly Constituency. Mahanta, founder president of the AGP, a partner of the present BJP-led Government at Dispur has expressed serious resentment in his letters saying there had been no development in his Barhanpur constituency during the 15-year erstwhile Congress regime in the State. He said the situation has not changed for the better even after the BJP-led Government assumed power in Dispur in 2016. According to Mahanta, no development scheme has been sanctioned for Barhampur for the last several years leaving health, PWD, education and communication sectors in devastating state. He has also sent letters to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance, PWD and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighting the plight of his constituency.

Mahanta told The Sentinel that he had personally met the Prime Minister and Gadkari in New Delhi on April 4 to highlight underdevelopment in his constituency. Both told Mahanta to wait for 15 days. “But I've not noticed anything positive since my meeting of April 4. So I've to write to the PM and Gadkari to remind them about underdevelopment in my Assembly constituency. The people are angry and I am answerable to them since they elected me as their representative,” Mahanta, a signatory of the historic Assam Accord, said.
