State Biodiversity Board’s web portal launched

GUWAHATI, May 28: The Assam State Biodiversity Board, in a function organized at NEDFi house auditorium on May 28 has ceremonially launched the Board’s portal and the logo of the ‘Nature Learning Centre-(NLC-Assam)’.

Attending the ceremony as chief guest, the Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya said that mankind, being the superior most creatures on this earth have an inherent responsibility to conserve biodiversity. He said that we all have a duty to make the earth a better place for sustainable existence. “This portal would act like a ‘hub’ and the ‘mother of information’ on biodiversity”, the minister said. He desired that the Board should extend its reach to schools and colleges of remote areas across the State to aware them on the trade.

Additional Chief Secretary for Environment and Forest Department Alok Kumar in his remark emphasized on the need for active use of the portal by the students, researchers and academicians. The PCCF and HoFF N K Vasu spoke about the dynamism and utility of the portal. He congratulated the Board for the initiative.

The delegates and dignitaries attending the ceremony included academicians, researchers and students, experts and officials. In the function, 7 experts and 5 top-contributors of the portal were felicitated by the Minister. Dr Ranjana Gupta, Special PCCF (Wetlands), thanked the Minister for encouraging the youth of the state to contribute to the cause of nature. She made a special mention of various experts and contributors of the portal.
