JOYSAGAR, May 28: Sivasagar Police arrested two thieves from Station Chariali here on Sunday. They were identified as Zakirul Ahmed of Dhai Ali and Ratan Dutta of Station Chariali. The accused were involved in a burglary incident which took place in a petrol pump at M I B Road here. The thieves had allegedly looted Rs 50,000 cash from the cash counter of the petrol pump on Saturday evening. Following FIR lodged by the owner of the petrol pump, police arrested the thieves.

Meanwhile, in Gaurisagar, a notorious gang of thieves has been creating terror among the people in recent times. As per report, the gang of thieves has looted the houses of as many as five villagers and also a naamghar near Silasaku area within three days. Besides in the greater Charing area, another gang of burglars has executed many burglaries. A gang of cattle smugglers is also active in this area and reportedly this gang has also stolen as many as six cattle from local villagers within last four days. Villagers have lodged separate FIRs in Joysagar and Gaurisagar police stations. Police have started investigation but are yet to nab the culprits, sources informed.
