‘Initial probe indicate nurse could be murdered’

Shillong, May 30: Preliminary investigations into the death of Leiveton Soro who worked as a nurse at a hospital in Shillong indicate that it could be case of murder while the rape angle is being looked into by the police. Her body was recovered on Sunday from Ryndang Briew gorge located about 10 kms from Shillong city.

Sp4eaking to The Sentinel on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police (city) Stephan Rynjah said, “Prima-facie evidence indicate that it is a case of murder,” adding, “We are on the lookout for certain suspects.” The postmortem of the deceased was carried out at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGHRIHMS) on Wednesday afternoon. The report will also reveal the rape angle and the police are optimistic of solving the case soon.

“We are ascertaining all facts related to the matter and hopefully with all proofs and evidence, the perpetrator(s) will be nab soon”, stated Rynjah. The deceased attended to her duties last Saturday, informed the administrator of the hospital. She lives at Nongrim Hills and her disappearance was noticed after frantic telephonic calls made by her peer groups failed to reached her.

The CSWO has strongly condemned the suspected murder of Leiyaton Soro, a young lady from Manipur.

The CSWO has also urged the public to cooperate with the police with leads, if any, in the said case. Meanwhile, the SP (City) admitted that such cases have grown in the recent past.
