Cooperative society secretary arrested

JOYSAGAR, May 31: Pankaj Ghatwar (52), a resident of Gelakey Tiniali, Sivasagar and the secretary of the Gelakey Cooperative Society, was arrested by the Nazira Police on Tuesday night on charge of smuggling various PDS items which was allotted by the Sivasagar District Consumer and Civil Supply department for distribution among the BPL and APL card holders under Gelakey development block. A gang of smugglers has been stealing PDS items like rice and kerosene oil in Sivasagar district. The rice and kerosene which was allotted to be distributed among the BPL and APL card holders of the district for the month of April and May, 2018 were allegedly smuggled by a notorious gang, thereby depriving the actual beneficiaries. The Sivasagar district administration has been carrying out investigation regarding this allegation and following the investigation, Nazira Police arrested the accused Pankaj Ghatwar in connection with the PDS rice and kerosene smuggling case, sources informed.
