MANGALDAI, June 1: Mangaldai known as the cultural hub for the ‘Darrangi Folk Culture’, particularly ‘Ojapali’, is also known for the exceptional performance of ‘Xatriya Nritya’. Two eminent danseuse of Mangaldai, namely, Bhanu Deka Saharia and Rupshikha Saloi have already received high reputation for practising and imparting training on this classical dance form created by the great Vaishnavite Saint Mahapurush Shankardev, for their performance in different cities of India. Yet the ‘Xatriya Nritya’ was not included as a subject in any academic institutions in Darrang except in the music colleges. Keeping it mind and taking it as a challenge ‘Brilliant Academy’- a premier academic institution at private sector, two years back had introduced the ‘Xatriya Nritya’ as a subject in the Higher Secondary classes. Four enthusiastic students came forward with a positive response towards the initiative of ‘Brilliant Academy’ and got admission in it. Danseuse of reputation Rupshikha Saloi joined the academy as a resource person.

In the recently declared results of the Higher Secondary final examination under Assam Higher secondary Education Council, all the four students came out with the flying colours securing letter marks in ‘Xatriya Nritya’. Kritishree Sarma and Nibedita Deka have secured 94 marks while Sunayana Sarma secured 92 and Priyangka Baishya secured 89 marks. This is for the first time in the district that all the four students appeared in the examination with ‘Xatriya Nritya’ as a subject and all secured the letter marks. Talking to The Sentinel, Rupshikha Saloi expressed her satisfaction over the performance of all the students and hoped that more students would come forward for enrollment in the newly introduced subject.
