Silchar June 2: Singerband PWD road is in a very bad shape owing to the continuous landslide and erosion. A huge part of the road has already been eroded. The road which has now assumed a dangerous form has been visited upon by a number of political leaders, MLAs and authorities concerned several times. Till now no concrete steps have been taken so far to end the nagging issue once and for all. Last year, MLA Rajdeep Goala assisted in making a temporary bamboo made support, but it has also been damaged. At present, commuters and vehicle users have to cover a long distance, an indirect route to reach Binnakandi Ghat and Lakhipur.

They have to go through Kaptanpur, Rupaibali and Singerband. Swapan Singh, an active and agile social activist has written about this issue to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. The Centre and the DoNER are also aware about this problem. Rs11 crores was sanctioned for construction of the work during the Congress regime. But nothing has been in this regard to implement the work. Swapan Singh also wrote to the SDO of Water Reserve Department who assured him that steps would soon be taken to solve the problem.

Recently, Binnakandi BDO Kamali Sharma visited the area and discussed with the people. He also assured that he would soon write to the government. He met with the representative of Binnkandi GP president, Mohammad, Y Mani Singh, K Champalal Singh, Nadiya Chand Singh and Jamini Singh. About 5 to 6 houses have already been washed away. Swapan Singh along with all the people have urged upon the authorities concerned to mitigate the problem. People have warned that if no step is taken, they would go for protests, mass agitations and movements.
