Bar Council favours trial in fast track court

Karbi Anglong lynching case

GUWAHATI, June 13: While talking to the media persons on Wednesday, the Gauhati High Court Bar Association expressed that the kingpins involved in the recent Karbi Anglong lynching case be trailed in the fast track court. The president of the Bar Association KK Mahanta opined that in need, special prosecutor (s) should be appointed to run a fair trial. Appealing to maintain peace and tranquility against all the odds, Mahanta said that society should not spare a space for the culprits. Stating that the recent tragic incident has demonstrated the gap of understanding, Mahanta said, “The culprits deserve stringent legal punishment”. He appealed the CEM of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to spread awareness to do away social evils like superstition. Mahanta also appealed the investigation officer of the case to water tight charge sheet so that the culprits involved do not find a space to escape from exemplary punishment.

Meanwhile, the bar Council also observed its 70th foundation day.
