Floods Continue to Wreak Havoc in Northeast, Over 4.25 Lakh Affected

The arrival of Monsoon season is no more a blessing to the residents of Northeast India. The fury of floods created by the heavy rainfalls in this season causes' unprecedented damage to the entire Northeast.

As reported, over 4.25 lakh people in Assam have been affected by the floods. People have been rendered homeless and the death toll continues to rise. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 716 villages are under the flood water and 3,292 hectares of crop areas have been damaged.

The first wave of the floods has claimed around 17 lives in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, and Mizoram. With the excessive downpour in and around the region, the question is if entire Northeast India needs flood insurance?
