ITANAGAR, June 18: With the 4th International Yoga Day just around the corner, the Field Outreach Bureau of Pasighat in East Siang district launched its campaign at Mirbukh village near Pasighat on Sunday.

Director and regional head, Dr Keshavmurthy, who was also present, said that yoga is not just a method of exercise but is a way of life that “relieves our body and mind of all tensions leading to a happy and healthy life”.

He said a recent study has revealed that yoga prevents injuries among elderly because the fear of falling down declines comparatively in those who practice yoga regularly. He also added that yoga teaching at school can help improve the emotional health of children and should be made part of formal education.

While explaining various initiatives taken by government in consultation with the Ministry of AYUSH, Murthy stated that the Bureau of Outreach & Communication that was formed by merging the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), the Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) and Song and Drama Division (S&DD), has assigned 148 special outreach programmes all over the country that will include group discussions, rallies, elocution, painting and quiz contests apart from public meetings and yoga demonstration. International Yoga Day is held on June 21, an official release said here today.
